Training I received in the Book Cliff Chapter

I find membership in IAAP valuable because it has forced me to grow and expand my professional experience in a warm and friendly environment.  The opportunity to "try out" skills has made me more comfortable on the job and given me more confidence.  To follow is a list of how the transformation occurs:

  • Certification:  I participated in the certification study group led by Pearl Hasson last year, which met bi-weekly, then weekly leading up to the test at Mesa State in May.   Passing the test has given me credentials as a Certified Professional Secretary; a measurement of my skill set to an employer.
  • As Webmaster I learned how to navigate and edit the Book Cliff website, upload documents and pictures, promote our programs, design interesting layouts, post HOT Job opportunities, setup a personal profile, blog, and watch the traffic on our website.
  • As Program Chair I put together programs for our monthly meetings, negotiated events and recruited speakers.   Introducing the speakers gave me public speaking experience.
  •  As Sunshine/Hospitality chair I got to know more of our members and administrative professionals across the Grand Valley.
  • As a Program Presenter on Leadership last year.  I received public speaking experience, set-up a PowerPoint presentation, created a fun game to keep everyone interested and used a flip chart for brainstorming with the group.   I am no longer shy at board meetings!

 Thank you for mentoring me!

How can we ever top the year of “Passion and Purpose”? We had such a great year last year, and I hope this year is just as wonderful for us.

I invite you to “Take the Leap to Remarkable” on a personal level.  Make yourself remarkable!  We can help each other become remarkable!   IAAP helps you become remarkable-advancing your knowledge, skills and ultimately your career, by providing their excellent certification program, through the work that is done for the chapter on the various committees, as well as the great educational opportunities that are offered every month.   Can you imagine the benefit of adding “Webmaster” on your resume?  If you take on that committee position, you can say that on your resume!  You can learn how to be a webmaster, event planner, meeting coordinator, historian, team builder, leader, etc. with the help of the chapter.  It is all up to you.  The resources are all available to you.  How remarkable can you become?
